Welcome to the latest installment in our series, That’s Tempting, where we take a closer look at some of the most unique restaurants in Plano – and in our opinion, in all of Texas.
So far we’ve enjoyed a variety of delicious treats and eats – we experienced authentic Chinese cuisine, bold flavors straight from Spain, and even gelato! Throughout this series, we’ll hear from these tastemakers in our community and discover where their passion comes from. Here on the blog, we’re taking you behind the scenes every month.
This month, we’re trying some homestyle, country comfort food. Let’s go to Norma’s Café!
Bill Ziegler is the Director of Operations at Norma’s Cafe in Plano. Bill embodies what Norma’s Cafe is all about; he’s friendly, welcoming, and has all the southern charm. Bill and the rest of the Norma’s staff make visitors feel right at home. Once you step foot into this restaurant, the delicious smells of homestyle food truly start making the mouth water.
Norma’s Cafe is known as one of the destinations for delicious home cooking in North Texas, serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Everything on the menu is made in-house from scratch. For breakfast alone, the menu options cover all the bases from eggs to chicken fried steak and even cinnamon rolls.
Try Norma’s Cafe Favorite with two eggs and your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage plus hash browns or grits, and a homemade biscuit or toast. Feeling hungry? How about the Big Eaters with an 8 ounce ribeye steak, three eggs, a cinnamon roll, hashbrowns or grits, and a homemade biscuit or toast? There’s even eight different omelets, various pancakes, waffles, or French toast options, and Mexican breakfast options like tacos and migas.
One popular option, and Bills’ favorite temptation, is their Country Breakfast. It includes a hand-battered, chicken fried cut of certified Angus beef (or chicken), two eggs prepared any way you like, crispy hash browns or grits, and a buttered homemade biscuit fresh out of the oven (or toast). Check it out in the video below.
While Norma’s Cafe is most well known for breakfast, they also have incredible options for lunch and dinner. From classic sandwiches like club, BLT, and buffalo chicken to bacon mac & cheese burgers, meatloaf, and pot roast, every southern meal you can think of is on the menu. Don’t miss their daily specials like smothered pork chops, chicken and dumplings, beef tips, and fried shrimp.
Also, be sure to leave room for dessert. Grab a slice or take the whole darn pie to go! Mile High Pies™ like lemon, coconut, chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, and Oreo™ are topped sky high with meringue. Other desserts include peach and blackberry cobbler, apple, cherry, and strawberry pie, and carrot, chocolate, and German chocolate cake.
People come back to Norma’s because they love great, homestyle cooking any time of the day. But that’s not all Norma’s has to offer. Ed Murph, the owner of Norma’s Cafe, likes to say, “We make more than great comfort food; we make great friends and memories.” Ed ate at Norma’s in Dallas as a child; he loved the food and created many memories there. About 30+ years ago, he purchased the restaurant right from Norma herself, so he could help continue Norma’s legacy of good food and good fun.
Whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even dessert, visit Norma’s Cafe in Plano to enjoy delicious homemade comfort food and make wonderful memories with family and friends.
