WalletHub’s Methodology
To determine the best places for a fun-filled yet wallet-friendly staycation, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 15 key metrics.
In order to determine the best staycation destinations, WalletHub compared 182 U.S. cities across two key dimensions: recreation and rest and relaxation. Their data set ranges from parks per capita to the average home square footage and the idealness of summer weather.
They evaluated those dimensions using 15 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for staycationers.
WalletHub then determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order the sample.
